50th Season Finale: Glory, Praise, and Peace

We close our 50th anniversary season with the big wonderful sound of the Chorale and the Chamber Orchestra performing YOUR requests! From our five-decade history, you’ve chosen works by Brucker, Jenkins, and we’re adding the regional premiere of Marvin Hamlisch’s “Anatomy of Peace,” among others. We’re inviting back singers who’ve been members of the Chorale over the years to help blow out the candles on the cake and celebrate half a century of bringing music to Annapolis!

Celebration of Christmas

One night only! It’s the most wonderful time of the year – especially for this community favorite and family tradition! Many Annapolitans kick off the season with this concert, which features a sleigh full of holiday cheer provided by the Annapolis Chorale, Chamber Orchestra, and Artistic Director J. Ernest Green, along with special musical guests!

Two wonderful guest artists join the festivities this year. Pianist, composer, performer, and on-stage music director for Netflix’ The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Mark Berman returns to offer his amazing holiday arrangements and vibrant piano playing. He has composed and played for Sex and the City (think of the ubiquitous opening theme song), Nurse Jackie, Royal Pains, and many other shows. Mr. Berman has worked with a who’s who of music, including Carole King, Hugh Jackman, Aretha Franklin and has performed at Carnegie Hall and the legendary Rainbow Room, among other famous venues.

Back by popular demand, veteran Broadway performer Bernard Dotson returns as our Celebration of Christmas vocalist! Most recently seen on stage as Noah “Horse” T. Simmons in The Full Monty, Bernard has performed on Broadway in Ragtime, Finian’s RainbowChicago, Dream Girls, Sweet Smell Of Success, and many more! No stranger to Live Arts, Bernard is thrilled to be back for this year’s Celebration of Christmas!

Brahms – “Ein deutsches Requiem”

Witness the majesty and power of the Annapolis Chorale and the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra in the Ein deutches Requiem (A German Requiem) by Johannes Brahms. Brahms himself aptly referred to this as a Human Requiem. This setting of the requiem text paints the fragility, sorrow, and beauty of humanity unlike any other setting of the requiem text. This historic masterpiece will be paired with shorter chorale works that speak to our shared humanity. Join us for an evening of compelling choral singing that is sure to touch your soul!
