John Tavener’s gorgeous anthem, “Song for Athene,” (heard at Princess Diana’s funeral) begins
this musical reflection on year of unparalleled struggle and loss. The centerpiece of this program
is Mozart’s Requiem, which has long been a musical touchstone for those seeking consolation
from loss. One year after the events of 9/11, the Chorale performed this piece as part of the
worldwide “Rolling Requiem.” In this 20th anniversary year, it is again a fitting offering for our
community.
